Meet the Collector!

February 6, 2017

Dear Cultural Collaborators,

Below are the details for my next event at the museum.

I’ve seldom tackled the linkage between apartheid and my own psychology. By bringing up old memories, I view the impact of comics and the addiction to collecting in a different light – being put on the spot with questions I feel compelled to answer.

In previous talks, I reflected on the social and art history of comics. This venture goes back to how comic books became an integral part of my existence. I hope that it will be interesting – and entertaining.

Cliff and Ian: comic book companions in 1950s Cape Town!

An Afternoon with Comic Book Collector, Ian Rakoff

What : Special Events, V&A

Where: Seminar Room 1 in the Learning Centre on Level 3 of the Museum

When : Saturday 4 March; 12.00 – 13.30
Ian Rakoff is a screenwriter, film editor, comic book
collector and author. His passion for comics led to his compiling a
significant representative collection of mainly American comics, from
vintage turn-of-the-century newspaper strips to today’s graphic novels.
Join Ian for an afternoon talk as he discusses his life, collection and
enthusiasm for comic books.

Enjoy the opportunity to see and handle some of the collection which the
Victoria & Albert Museum acquired in 1990 for The National Art Library.
