In 2013 the V&A acquired the Vivien Leigh archive from her family and we are pleased to announce that the catalogue is now available online:
Vivien Leigh Archive – Catalogue
The archive covers many aspects of the life and career of Vivien Leigh (1913-1967) from young womanhood until her death. It includes letters and telegrams to her and Laurence Olivier, letters between her and Olivier, playscripts, filmscripts, awards, an extensive collection of photographic prints, negatives and stereoscopic pictures, appointment diaries, financial and business papers, scrapbooks and printed material.
After many months of sorting correspondence, deciphering handwriting and pet names, numbering folders and making cases for diaries, being amazed by some wonderful photographs from her private and professional lives and much more, the Vivien Leigh archive is now accessible for consultation and research in our Reading Room at V&A Blythe House in West Kensington. Everybody is welcome to view items in the collection. Access is by appointment only and the Reading Room is open Tuesday to Friday between 10.15 am and 4.30 pm. The Reading Room is located at Blythe House, 23 Blythe Road, London, W14 0QX. To request an appointment please email email@example.com or telephone 020 7942 2698.
Excellent work and initiative! Looking forward to visiting next time I!ll be in London.
A question: could there be any material related to Leigh´s visit to Brazil (Rio de Janeiro)touring with the Royal Shakespeare Company and meeting with Brazilian poet Cecilia Meireles? Thanks for the reply.
