“My name is Byung and I am a multi-disciplinary designer creating interior products and I also work for museums. This is my small installation about childhood imagination in my own dream space.
The front panel is composed of a collage and depicts my childhood’s imagination randomly. All images are 100% recycled from magazines in my house, which was a very unique experience – doing this while thinking about my childhood.
On the panel there are boxes – my toy boxes – reaching into the sky like “Jack’s beanstalk”. If I think back I always wanted to live on the top of “Jack’s beanstalk”, which was the most fascinating story when I was young.
Through the clear windows in the box you can see a teddy bear, which symbolises my memory. My beautiful memories are always with me in the toy box. The memories I always want to live with. I hope this small installation brings beautiful memories to you as well.”
Byung, creator of Design K, was known for his innovative designs for every-day objects, ranging from tables, salt shakers, egg holders and stools. He is the winner of the Design25 competition for London Design Festival for his “Tea for One” table, a table built for a single cup of tea, bringing a modern twist to a traditional past time.
