Pablo Picasso
One of the most influential artists of the 20th century, Picasso is known for constantly reinventing his style and exploring new ways of representing the world. Although not a formal member of the Surrealist group, he was admired for his ability to distort the human figure, break apart form, and express emotion with bold images. Picasso’s openness to experimentation and his interest in the unconscious placed him at the edges of Surrealism while he continued to work across painting, sculpture, printmaking, and ceramics.
