Details
This is Jim, faithful and beloved companion of Sir Henry Cole, the first director of the V&A in 1857.
Jim passed away in 1879, and was buried in the V&A’s Madejski Garden, where there is a commemorative plaque dedicated to him.
From Cole’s diaries, we learn that Jim was frequently by his master’s side, and invariably accompanied him to work, where his behaviour could be somewhat disruptive: 'Sunday, 11 January 1874. In Museum with Jim, who barked as usual.'
Created specially for the V&A, this felt decoration is handmade in Nepal by skilled artisans.
