V was a Veil

Drawing by Edward Lear (1812-88)

England, c.1880

One of 26 drawings depicting a nonsense alphabet. Each features an illustration, the letter in capital and small size in both Roman and copperplate style, and humorous verse. These drawings were made in Northern Italy about 1880 for Charles Geffrard Pirouet, then a small boy staying at the same hotel as the artist.

Custom printed on 300gsm textured fine art paper.
