About the artist

Robin Day

Robin Day (1915-2010) was born in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire and studied at High Wycombe School of Art, before moving to London to attend the Royal College of Art. He was one the most important British furniture designer of the 20th century. His wife Lucienne, whom he met during his time at the RCA, was a successful textile designer. Both designed with intentions of a broad reach rather than a luxury market and worked with manufacturers and department stores. Both Robin and Lucienne exhibited at the Festival of Britain, he providing the furniture designs, she the textiles that covered them.
