This colourful beaded necklace is made using a glass working technique known as millefiori from the Italian “thousand flowers”.
Skilled artisan of the island of Murano near Venice most famously developed the technique.
Clusters of cane glass, known as "murrine", are fused, stretched and sliced into tiny rounds, which reveal the original multicoloured flower pattern in the cross section. The finished design is viewable only from the cut ends of the cane that is cut into short lengths and the pieces are used to create colourful and unique jewellery or items such as vases and paperweights.
The image shows one possible variation in the design. You will receive a necklace designed in this style with a unique combination of colours and patterns.
