This limited edition volume is a facsimile of Lewis Carroll’s original handwritten manuscript of the tale that would become Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Carroll first imagined the world of Wonderland on a boat trip on the river with his young friend Alice Liddell and her sisters. Alice begged Carroll to write the story down for her, and so he carefully produced a manuscript illustrated with 37 drawings. The tale was later extended and adapted for publication, while the manuscript passed through private hands until it was returned to the British Library in 1948. Hand-numbered from 1 to 1,000, each book of this edition is presented in a 14x10 inch slipcase, bound, and sewn using only the finest materials. The slipcase and cover ornamentations are gilt embossed, and the pages are printed using vegetal ink on environmentally friendly paper.
