This artwork was inspired by the Mughal architecture inside the walled city of Lahore and reproduces the artist's original painting in gouache and acrylic. It is a nod to the history of sub continental imagery, flamboyantly reimagined in Hussain's strong colourful style.
Hailing from the bright and colourful land of Pakistan and now settled in London, Mahin Hussain is a print designer and visual artist whose hand-painted collection of work is inspired by her childhood memories and the iconic cultural imagery of the sub-continent.

The Great Mughals: Art, Architecture and Opulence
V&A South Kensington celebrates the extraordinary creativity and internationalist culture of the Golden Age of the Mughal Court (c.1560 – 1660) during the reigns of its most famous and influential emperors. This vibrant period saw the diverse traditions of Hindu and Muslim craftspeople in northern India combine with the practise of Iranian masters in the royal workshops, producing a radically new and exquisitely beautiful style of art and design.
