This stylish and unique bag has been created by Dastardly Line in collaboration with the V&A, using unique fabric left over from the V&A’s very own Textile Conservation studio.
This fabric has been involved in the conservation, preparation, and display of some of the world’s most important textiles, seen by thousands of people in the V&A’s exhibitions.
The bags are created from a mix of textile waste, primarily mannequin padding and fabric used in the conservation of important and
historical textiles in the V&A, giving leftover fabric from exhibition preparation and object preservation another life.
To give highlights of colour and functional stability, the V&A’s waste has been combined with cutting room floor waste from other industries
including luxury garment construction and car interiors, giving the opportunity of new life for all the flawed pieces and odd shapes that usually would end up in landfill. The waste fabric for the smaller details has been provided by Muirhead Leather, Maes London, The Centre for Advanced Textiles and The Swisstulle Company.
This project provides an attractive and functional way to reduce waste created by the museum, which is often unpredictable and hard to utilise, and allows you to take a piece of the V&A home to cherish forever.
