'Kalamkari' is an ancient hand-painting technique originating from South India. Translating as 'painting with a pen', beautiful motifs are pallied to fabric using a 'kalam' or bamboo pen as part of a meticulous process involving; dyeing, bleaching, printing and starching. Naturally-derived colours such as indigo, mustard and rust further-enhance the intricate patterns which may depict flora, fauna and iconography.
