Richard Brendon has selected four of his favourite patterns from the museum’s vast archives to reimagine with playful and whimsical twists. The Georgian Lilies pattern seen on this bone china cup and saucer puts a spin on the classic Royal Lily design favoured by King George III and Queen Charlotte. Caterpillars can be seen amongst the flowers, while a butterfly waits in the well of the saucer, a hidden detail to be discovered by the drinker when they lift the cup. When the reflective cup is placed onto the patterned antique saucer, it perfectly mirrors the design below, making it appear as though the pair have always belonged together.
Bridging the gap between traditional and contemporary design, Richard Brendon design and produce distinctive yet functional bone china with a recognisable flair. Each piece is made by master craftspeople in the potteries of Stoke-on-Trent, benefiting from the town’s generations of knowledge and experience while supporting heritage British industry.
