Taking inspiration from the elaborate tile work of the V&A’s Poynter Room, Night at the Fountain reworks Edward Poynter’s central fountain motif into a dream-like night scene inhabited by ghostly birds and abundant plants.
A limited palette pays homage to the original craftsmanship of the room’s tiles, while the faux tiles framing the fountain scene become tiny individual paintings of their own, depicting the abstracted shapes and foliage that one might see dancing in the depths of Poynter’s fountain at night.

Suhaylah Hamid
British Trinidadian artist Suhaylah Hamid’s paintings evoke dreamlike landscapes in luscious colour palettes. Her work explores the intersection of landscape and symbolism, the connection between material and immaterial worlds.
Suhaylah worked with the V&A to create a custom work inspired by the museum’s Poynter Room.
