On Friday 23 October, Digital Meetup: Systems at Play brings five artists to the V&A for an evening of installations, workshops and discussion. Developed in collaboration with arebyte Digital Art Centre, the event invites you to discover, test and question how interactions between people and machines are shaping contemporary creative practices.
Make new connections
Digital Meetup is the V&A’s series of social events for digital artists, designers, young people and anyone curious about art, design and technology. Each meetup offers opportunities to share projects, build skills and find new approaches to making.
Whether you’re an artist, designer, student, producer or curator working with creative technology, this is also a space to meet your peers. You might be looking for a collaborator, interested in forming or joining a collective or simply keen to exchange ideas with people working across creative practice and digital culture. Come along to start conversations, share what you’re working on and make connections that grow beyond a single evening.

The programme brings these conversations into practice through interactive installations, practical workshops and opportunities to showcase projects and broaden your practice.
Artworks and installations
- Reimagine reality through an installation by creative technologist and digital artist Olivia Ema
- Collaborate with digital artist Emir Johnston’s drawing robots to create paintings
- Use your voice to paint digital mandalas in designer and digital technologist Maria Than‘s installation.
Workshops
- Join Ambie Drew’s workshop to learn glitching techniques for video
- Experiment with satellite data to create digital landscapes with artist Freddie Sanders using Blender
The evening also includes a community Show & Tell as part of Processing Community Day, a global celebration of open-source creative coding, inviting you to discover community projects and exchange ideas around digital art and interactive design.
This event forms part of Digital Art Season: On Agency, which examines the boundaries between human and machine agency. Through making, experimentation and conversation with artists, the meetup offers a chance to explore these questions together.
