For the second edition of our online Friday Late programme we invited musician, producer, DJ and broadcaster Nabihah Iqbal to perform a live set in the dramatic surroundings of our Medieval and Renaissance gallery, accompanied by projections by visual artist Tom Flynn, costumes by designer Renli Su and make-up by Carly Hart.
Having spent the past two years working on material for a new album, earlier this year Nabihah’s studio was broken into and her equipment was stolen, along with the works in progress which were saved in its folders. ‘Blue Magic Gentle Magic (lost songs)’ are the few works that Nabihah was able to salvage – an interim album of lost songs and ambient meditations inspired by nature and the English countryside.
For this exclusive Friday Late performance, Nabihah performed these tracks live for the first time – her only live show of 2020. During a year in which so many of us have missed experiencing live music, Nabihah’s performance feels like a real privilege.
We’ll be back with more Friday Late performances next year. Keep an eye on the Friday Late webpage and the V&A’s social channels to hear about the next Friday Late!
