Intoart is an artist-led visual arts organisation based in London working with adults and young people with learning disabilities. The V&A have worked closely with Intoart to produce a series of six tours that use artist’s drawings as a means of exploring the V&A collections.
Over six visits to the Museum, artists Andre Williams, Christian Ovonlen, Clifton Wright, Philomena Powell, Lisa Trim and Selina Helene spent time researching the collections and developing ideas for their tours. Using this research, the artists worked over six months in the Intoart studio to each produce six drawings for tours that explore the V&A building, British, China, Glass and Ironwork galleries. The tours also include artists’ descriptions of why they chose certain objects, what interesting design features inspired them, and questions to consider when looking at each object or view of the building.
This series is intended to open up the collections to adults and young people with learning disabilities. The tours can be used as part of a self-guided visit and as a starting point to create your own drawings of objects from the V&A collections.
Each tour can be downloaded, printed and used on phones or tablets.
