John Deare’s Edward and Eleanor marble relief

Join us in the Britain Galleries with Senior Curator of Sculpture, Kira d'Alburquerque, as we learn more about British Sculptor John Deare’s marvellous Edward and Eleanor marble relief. It was carved in Rome in 1790 and depicts a piece of medieval British history centred on Prince Edward, later King Edward I, and his wife, Eleanor of Castile.

This relief was accepted in lieu of Inheritance Tax by HM Government from the estate of Jacob, 4th Baron Rothschild, and allocated to the Victoria and Albert Museum in 2025. 

This event is free but ticketed. Booking is essential. Please meet in the Britain Galleries, Gallery 119.
