Plastics are widely found in museums but how do we identify them and ensure that we deal with any possible ticking time bombs? This workshop introduces the different types of plastics and highlights those at most risk in collections.

Identification without analysis is approached by charting the history and technological development of plastics, also their style and production methods. Attendees will become familiar with the sensory properties of different plastics such as appearance, smell, and feel.  A wide variety of objects made from different types of plastics will allow participants to practice methods of discriminating between various materials.
