Sorting Song, by Swiss designer and researcher Simone C. Niquille, makes visible the protocols and data that shape digital representations of our environment. Taking the format of an educational nursery rhyme, the work seeks to push beyond what appears naïve and unsettle a world of digitally coded assumptions. Niquille’s film reveals the mistakes and absurdities that occur in computer vision, which lacks important human context.

An ‘in-conversation’ between Simone C. Niquille and Natalie Kane will begin at 6:30pm. This is a drop-in event and booking is not required. This event will be live captioned.

Sorting Song is on display in the Photography Centre’s Digital Gallery (Room 99) until 26 August 2024.
