This live design and building workshop is run by local architecture practice Studio Bark and its sister non-profit, U-Build. Over two days, they will show participants how to think like an architect: creating a design brief, sketching ideas, making models, refining designs, and ultimately the creation of a full scale installation at Young V&A, which will be open to the public in the Town Square on Wednesday 13 August.

Day 1: Monday 11 August, 11.00 - 16.00.
Registration from 10.30am
On the first day of the workshop, participants will be challenged to consider the needs of different users of the Young V&A’s Town Square, and to imagine and design new (full scale) temporary installations that could be used and enjoyed by them. Perhaps a place to explore, read, hang out, think , or play… the brief is theirs to explore through research, sketching and model making.

Day 2:  Tuesday 12 August, 11.00 - 16.00.
Participants will prototype their ideas in full scale, using modular wooden ‘U-Build’ blocks. They will also have the opportunity to explore the creation of posters and branding, using Risograph printing, before installing their final co-designed architecture in the Town Square.

Day 3: Wednesday 13 August (Optional and drop-in)
Participants and their families will be invited back to experience the final installation designed, developed and built by Summer Design Club participants in collaboration with Studio Bark and U-Build. Visitors will be encouraged to interact with the installation, whether that be writing and sharing their thoughts, or moving and climbing through the structure.

Studio Bark is a leading environmental architectural practice based locally in Cambridge Heath, London, working with residential, retrofit, community, and public arts projects. They create thoughtful, practical architecture for a changing world, and are motivated by compassion towards people and planet. Studio Bark are vocal in communicating what they believe in. They are also the creators of the U-Build modular building system, and Small Carbon whole life carbon counting software.

U-Build is a low-impact, inclusive building system guided by circular economy principles. Our aim is to make construction simple so that anyone can participate. We make re-usable building components. We say yes to creativity, yes to participation but no to skips.
