Opera Weekender: Welsh National Opera presents Magic Butterfly VR Experience

Using 21st century virtual reality technology, WNO will take you inside two of their most popular productions (Madam Butterfly and The Magic Flute) where you will be charmed by one of opera’s favourite heroines, and interact with some friendly four-legged friends.

Magic Butterfly reimagines scenes from Madam Butterfly and The Magic Flute, enchanting you in through a unique form of storytelling using classical music, art and technology. Featuring an original WNO recording, this presentation will be your perfect companion if you are new to, or unfamiliar with, the world of opera. Just don a VR headset to be taken right inside two of our classic productions as you conjure up some animals as Tamino from The Magic Flute and enjoy an exclusive performance of Madam Butterfly’s 'One Fine Day' aria. It’s your chance to take up the baton, in the form of the Google Daydream controller, and immerse yourself in these different worlds.

Magic Butterfly has been created by Virtual Reality & Creative Production Agency REWIND in conjunction with Welsh National Opera. WNO Digital Producer David Massey said “We hope that this new commission will inspire and excite the next generation of theatre and opera audiences.”
