From Sense and Sensibility to Persuasion, Jane Austen’s works provide insightful social commentary on the changing face of British life in the often-turbulent Regency period, especially through her use of clothing and textiles. Dress historian, author and curator Hilary Davidson has written about and studied this period extensively, publishing several books on the subject, including Jane Austen’s Wardrobe, showcasing the continuing influence of this period on fashions of today – from high waistlines to well-cut coats.

Join her in celebration of the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth, as Davidson publishes her latest work, A Guide to Regency Dress, for a talk including objects from the V&A’s collection that will bring this important era to life.
