Step into the newly reopened Gilbert Galleries and discover a dazzling menagerie of creatures in gold, silver and enamel. From the serenity of the swan to the ruby eyed lamb, this guided tour explores how artists across centuries captured the beauty, symbolism and wonder of the animal kingdom.
Admire intricate micromosaics, enamelled treasures and jewel-like snuff boxes inspired by feather and fur, including the famed Tigress Lying Below Rocks and delicate Capitoline doves. Continuing into the Silver Galleries, uncover the stories behind regal leopards and monumental lions before ending with remarkable paintings, which includes Edwin Landseer’s magnificent Newfoundland dog.
