Lunchtime Lecture: Lucian Freud’s Etchings: A Creative Collaboration photo

This talk will explore Lucian Freud's work as a printmaker, focusing on a unique collection of etchings recently acquired by the V&A. These trial proofs, some of which are currently on display, tell the story of Freud's long collaboration with master printer Marc Balakjian, and show how Balakjian's skills supported Freud's achievements in print.

Gill Saunders retired from her role as the V&A’s Senior Curator of Prints in 2022 and is now Honorary Senior Research Fellow. She curated the display Lucian Freud’s Etchings: A Creative Collaboration and is now researching a book about screenprints. She writes, broadcasts and lectures widely on 20th century and contemporary prints and drawings.
