Guided by textile artist Christine Leech, this hands-on workshop invites you to customise a printed Toile de Jouy scene using expressive embroidery techniques, transforming a historic design into a contemporary, personal statement. The fabric is printed from original 18th-century Toile de Jouy designs by Christophe-Philippe Oberkampf, whose manufactory at Jouy-en-Josas revolutionised textile production in pre-Revolutionary France through innovation, narrative imagery and political commentary.
You will be supported step by step as you stitch into the scene, altering its story through colour, texture and detail. By the end of the session, you’ll take home your reimagined historic textile stretched in a hoop creating a truly unique embroidered artwork. You will have the opportunity to learn new stitches such as: French knots, satin stitch, bullion knots couching, whipped back stitch, scallop stitch and the lazy daisy.
All materials provided. No experience necessary. Ticket includes a glass of wine to enjoy as you embroider.
