This study day lets you delve into the medium of photography and introduces you to the V&A’s photography collections and newly opened Photography Centre.
V&A Academy Unlocked days invite you behind the scenes, bringing you face-to-face with the V&A's extraordinary collections. Join us for a V&A curator-led object handling session that allows you to get up close to some of the V&A’s photography collection not currently on display. Join a V&A curator-led gallery tour to explore the new Photography Centre to learn about the selection process and design of this new gallery. Enjoy an introductory lecture by V&A Head of Photography Duncan Forbes to start your study day and find out how the V&A’s photography collections started and evolved.
This study day is designed to complement the 6-week online short course ‘Points of View: V&A Histories of Photography' led by V&A Senior Curator Martin Barnes but you do not need to be enrolled on any online course to join an 'Unlocked' event.
V&A Senior Curator of Photography
Martin Barnes
Martin Barnes is Senior Curator of Photographs at the V&A which he joined in 1995. Since he has worked on the Photography Gallery and numerous temporary V&A exhibitions and publications. Previously, Martin worked for the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool and studied at the University of Leicester and the Courtauld Institute of Art, London.
