Wolverhampton-born Beverley rose to prominence in 1994 following the release of her debut album, The B-Funk. It showcased a multi-octave gospel-trained voice against a soulful landscape. She has released more than ten albums to date.
Beverley has established an acclaimed career in British dramatic and musical theatre, starring in an array of captivating productions including Cats, The Bodyguard, Memphis the Musical, The Drifter’s Girl, Sister Act, Sylvia, and Marie & Rosetta. She is a recipient of an Olivier Award and two Black British Theatre honours.
Ahead of her “Born to Perform” UK tour, where for the first time Beverley will integrate her own material and favourites from musical theatre, this special in-person only evening will see Beverley reflect on a life on stage, in conversation with Simon Sladen, Senior Curator of Theatre and Performance.
This event is held in conjunction with V&A East’s forthcoming opening exhibition, The Music is Black: A British Story.
