V&A Academy Unlocked days invite you behind the scenes, bringing you face-to-face with the V&A's extraordinary collections.
The day will begin in the Hochhauser Lecture Theatre with a lecture by the Course Director Jennifer Wearden on the development of botanical art in the 17th and 18th centuries and its influence on textile design. This will be followed by a visit to The Print Room to see textile designs by Anna Maria Garthwaite, an important designer of silk textiles in the first half of the 18th century, and by a walk through the Europe and British Galleries with Dr Silvija Banić, the V&A’s Curator of Textiles.
This Unlocked study day is designed to complement the 12-week online Spring term course ‘Textiles: 1600 - 1800’ led by Jennifer Wearden but you do not need to be enrolled on any online course to join an ‘Unlocked’ event.
V&A Members get priority booking.
Jennifer Wearden was Senior Curator of Textiles in the Department of Furniture, Textiles & Fashion Museum until 2005. With experience of the textile industry in Lancashire and 28 years working with the V&A's textile collection, she has co-authored several popular V&A books and has devised and run highly successful courses on textiles and dress.
I so enjoyed all of the sessions... It was amazing to see these fabulous items up close. Previous Unlocked Study Day attendee
