This one-day conference will explore Ukrainian heritage in the UK through material culture, examining histories of identity, collection, and interpretation, situating it within the broader transnational approaches to European history. Bringing together UK and Ukrainian scholars, curators, and practitioners, it will reflect on past practices, current research, and future approaches amid growing global awareness and engagement in recent years.

Across four thematic sessions, the programme considers the impact of conflict on cultural institutions, the histories of acquisition and displacement that shaped UK collections, and current efforts to reassess cataloguing, interpretation, and display. It also highlights the role of international collaboration, digital initiatives, and diaspora communities in shaping how Ukrainian culture is understood and presented.

By reflecting on both past practices and future directions, the conference aims to foster a historically grounded, critically informed, and globally situated approach to Ukrainian heritage in UK museums.
international perspectives on its representation, challenges, and opportunities.
