In the 1590s, while living in the parish of St Helens, Bishopsgate, William Shakespeare evolved from new ‘arriviste’ in London to established theatre professional. In this online talk, exclusive to V&A Members, Curator Geoffrey Marsh shares the fascinating stories of families who lived in his parish, and how their interests, work, and connections may have influenced the great writer as he finished works including Romeo & Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and The Merchant of Venice.
This event will be held on Zoom, and all ticket holders will receive a link to join the morning of the event. Booking will close at 4 pm on the day of the event; if you have not received a link to view by that time, please contact membershipevents@vam.ac.uk.
