Family Design Challenge
Saturdays
Take on a Family Design Challenge in Open Studio, where you and your children problem-solve, design and make together. You'll respond to a creative brief set by a designer, explore inspiring objects from Young V&A, and get hands-on with a range of materials and tools with the support of our creative facilitators. At the end, you can take your creation home or choose to display it in Open Studio.
More Information
- This free workshop is open to families with children aged up to 14 and is most suitable for children aged 5-14.
- Drop in anytime between 12.00 and 16.00, with last entry at 15.30.
- On busier days, sessions may run as six timed 30-minute workshops between 12.00 and 16.00. Queuing opens 10 minutes before each session: 12.00, 12.40, 13.20, 14.00, 14.40 and 15.20.
- We can welcome up to 50 participants, including children, young people and grown-ups across our tables and soft seating areas.

- This is a family event, children must be accompanied by an adult throughout the workshop.
- We offer a range of materials, tools and ways to take part, so children and young people can explore and create in a way that works best for them.
- Ear defenders are available from reception and in Open Studio.
- Activities are mainly table-based, with tables at different heights and a variety of seating options, including a carpeted area.
- We know that visiting a museum as a family requires lots of planning. If you'd like more information before your visit, or would like to let us know about your child's access needs, please email yvalearningevent@vam.ac.uk.
- On the day, our friendly team will be happy to help. Please speak to us if there is anything we can do to make your visit more comfortable.
