LCW Maker Demonstrations: Couture Craftsmanship - Featherwork photo

One of only 12 feathermakers in France, Master Artisan Julien Vermeulen will showcase his craftsmanship with Fellow Matéo Laurent, manipulating feathers into works of art used in couture and beyond.

Trained at the Lycée Octave Feuillet Paris, Julien Vermeulen holds a BTS in fashion design and a license in fine art and art science. Julien built his technical skills working for Parisian atelier Lemarié, going on to establish Maison Vermeulen in 2015 and has since collaborated with prestigious fashion houses.

Matéo Laurent is a draughtsman, portrait painter and a graduate from the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Since 2020 he has been working on commissions for designers in the field of fashion and crafts.

Supported by the Homo Faber Fellowship, a life-changing programme which facilitates the transmission of knowledge and skills from one generation to the next.
