Abiola Onabule leads this interactive workshop introducing indigo dyeing techniques used to create adire, patterned cloth made by Yoruba dyers in South Western Nigeria. Each piece of adire tells a story; Abiola will share some of these meanings using examples from both her own collection and the V&A archives, before showing you how to create your own design using resist dye techniques. As well as learning the practical techniques, you will have the opportunity to learn more about Nigerian textile heritage discussing ideas around cultural narratives woven within cloth.
