Maker Bios
Annie Higgins
Annie is an Artist Metalsmith exploring the fragmented body. She sees close similarities between metal and the body as both give and resist under pressure. She explores this relationship through hammer work processes like forging, raising and chasing, skills which she has developed working with blacksmiths, during her degree in Artist Blacksmithing, a residency at Birmingham School of Jewellery and with Bishopsland Educational Trust.
Adi Toch
Adi Toch is a London-based artist, metalsmith, and educator, exploring the sensorial, historical, and cultural dimensions of metal through the realm of objects and our close relationships with them. She investigates traditional techniques with an experimental approach and often employs the material’s transformative, sonic and reflective qualities. Her work has been recognised with prestigious awards and is held in major public collections including the V&A, National Museums Scotland and The Jewish Museum in New York, among others.
Caitlin Murphy
Caitlin Murphy is an award-winning Northern Irish maker. She graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 2022 and attended Bishopsland Educational Trust. She has recently undertaken a year-long residency at Glasgow School of Art. Caitlin’s work is centred on high levels of accuracy and precision, folding and weaving metal as though it were paper. Through the use of refractive metals such as niobium, she introduces vibrant colour alongside texture and pattern, further expanding the visual and material language of her practice.
Yusuke Yamamoto
Yusuke Yamamoto is a Japanese-born artist silversmith based on the Llyn Peninsula in North Wales. Originally trained as a blacksmith and sculptor, and graduating from Musashino Art University in 2004, he combines sculptural thinking with traditional hammer-raising and chasing techniques to create expressive silverware. Inspired by everyday observations and the surrounding Welsh landscape, his award-winning work is exhibited internationally and held in prestigious public collections in the UK.
