A feast for the eyes and the mind, Sarah E. Braddock Clarke's recent publication Byzantine Silk on the Silk Roads follows ‘Journeys between East and West, Past and Present’ via glorious Byzantine woven silks from the infamous Silk Roads. Join Sarah as she discusses the book: exploring world-class museums and archives, historical textiles are appraised in terms of their symbolism and codes, while examples of contemporary fashion, inspired by the Byzantine era, deliver a passion for evocative imagery and patterns in jewel-like colours and rich textures.

Sarah Elizabeth Braddock Clarke is Senior Lecturer in Fashion Design at Falmouth University, Cornwall, UK. Her area of research lies in materials and technologies, fashion and cultural identities with a particular interest in East – West exchanges.
