2025 marks one hundred years since the Art Deco movement emerged at the International Exhibition of Modern and Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris. Join us for a glittering discussion about how Art Deco’s modernist style revolutionized jewellery design and the enduring impact the movement’s signature aesthetic continues to have on the creators of today.
From Mikimoto’s signature pearl masterpieces to Jackie Kennedy’s toi et moi engagement ring to master glassmaker Rene Lalique’s creations to Fred Leighton’s vintage red carpet and silver screen pieces, Art Deco designs have delighted and beguiled jewellery designers, collectors, and tastemakers for the past century. To mark the publication of The Jewelry Book, published by Phaidon, featured designers and dealers from the book will share the movement’s historical impact and how the Art Deco era continues to shape and inspire their own work.
The book’s editor, jewellery journalist and curator Melanie Grant, will moderate a discussion with Satta Matturi, founder and creative lead of Matturi Fine Jewellery, Guy Burton, Managing Director of the antique, vintage & contemporary jewellery house Hancocks, and French designer Elie Top who founded his eponymous jewellery house in 2015.
This talk will be streamed on Zoom and all ticketholders will receive a link to view the morning of the event.
