Artist Zadie Xa explores how garments can embody power, spirituality and a sense of belonging.

From a Daoist priest’s robe to snowboarding outfits, streetwear to ceremonial dress, Xa weaves together a range of reference points across geographies and histories. Her immersive installation of seven suspended sculptural jackets gradually grow and shift in form, emphasising how clothing has the ability to transform the wearer’s identity, carry messages and take on a presence of their own.

This work was made in collaboration with Manuel Vadillo, Han Hum Chang, Woojoo Park, Benito Mayor Vallejo, Shengli Lin Studios and support from Imsook Cha.
