This lecture will retrace the fascinating diplomatic career of James Harris, 1st Earl of Malmesbury, who was ambassador to Madrid, Berlin, St. Petersburg, The Hague, Brunswick and Paris between 1767-1795, and whose collection of gold boxes are now on display in the Gilbert Galleries.
