It would be easy to mistake a ‘Micromosaic’ for a painting: put together from thousands of minute and very fine glass pieces, the finished product is characterised by such an astonishing level of detail that makes it difficult to believe that the scene had not been painted with a brush. From monumental tables to delicate pieces of jewellery, the Gilberts assembled one of the most significant collections in the world and the term was allegedly invented by Sir Arthur Gilbert (1913-2001) himself. Dr. Heike Zech, former curator of the Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Collection, will guide you through this magnificent art-form.
