Akademi presents: Classical Indian Dance with Jesal Patel photo

Akademi dance artist Jesal Patel performs Kathak, a classical Indian dance style characterised by its intricate details, storytelling and lines.

Piece 1: Tarana (duration 7 minutes)
A pure technical Kathak piece, with lots of fast, fun rhythmic patterns and sequences. Originally choreographed by Maulik Shah, the piece has been reworked by the performer, giving it her own expression and nuance.

Piece 2: Prabudata (duration 9 minutes)
This is a devotional Kathak piece. The piece encapsulates the pure joy of dancing amongst beautiful surroundings and an appreciation for the creation of nature around us.

Performances are at 14.30 and 16.30.
