Sculpting Surrealism: A Schiaparelli-Inspired Millinery Workshop

Inspired by Elsa Schiaparelli’s visionary designs and collaborations with Surrealist artists of the 1930s, this hands-on workshop explores the playful intersection of fashion, art and imagination. Following an introduction to Schiaparelli’s groundbreaking approach to design, participants will discover how her use of unexpected materials, surrealist symbolism and bold silhouettes transformed fashion.
Using traditional millinery techniques, participants will learn to manipulate felt through steaming, folding, draping and hand stitching to create a unique cocktail-style headpiece. Designs can then be personalised with embellishments inspired by Schiaparelli’s imaginative world, including feathers, decorative braids, charms and metallic details.
No previous experience is required, and participants will leave with their own wearable piece of art and a deeper appreciation of couture craftsmanship. Your evening workshop also includes a welcome drink, with a choice of wine or a soft drink on arrival.

About the Tutor
The workshop will be led by milliner Sahar Freemantle, founder of Sahar Millinery. Sahar has over eighteen years of millinery experience and has created hats for the Princess of Wales, worked on productions including Downton Abbey, exhibited work at the V&A and internationally, and regularly teaches millinery workshops for beginners through to professionals.
