Blue and white porcelain is synonymous with China, where this distinctive palette was developed in a wide range of distinctive styles, for the domestic market and imperial consumption, and for export to regional and global markets.
This study day explores the evolution of blue and white porcelain through the extensive V&A collections, from the Yuan dynasty (1271-1368 AD) to the modern period.

Join us for an object handling session with V&A Academy Course Director Dr Helen Glaister, to experience blue and while porcelain up close. Explore highlights of the V&A’s Ceramics collection through a gallery tour led by independent lecturer, Anne Haworth and enjoy an introductory lecture by Helen Glaister to start your day.

Dr Helen Glaister
Dr Helen Glaister is an art historian specializing in Chinese Ceramics and Decorative Arts. Helen previously worked at the British Museum, and is Senior Teaching Fellow at SOAS. Research interests include Chinese export porcelain, collections history and cultural interactions between China and Europe in the long 18th century.
