A Life in the Work of Others with Thomas J Price photo
Join artist Thomas J Price in conversation with Gus Casely-Hayford for a reflection on the influences, relationships and histories that shape his work.

Price is one of the most significant British sculptors working today, known for his monumental figurative works that challenge conventions of representation in public space. His sculptures often depict fictionalised everyday figures, questioning traditional hierarchies of who is commemorated and how identity is perceived.

Part of V&A East’s A Life in the Work of Others series, this event invites Price to reflect on the artists, communities, collaborators and cultural traditions that have informed his practice. Through this lens, the conversation will explore both the development of his work and the ideas that underpin it.

The discussion takes place following the unveiling of Price’s newest sculpture, A Place Beyond, outside V&A East Museum ahead of its opening. Standing 18 feet tall, the work depicts a young figure in casual dress, inviting viewers to bring their own thoughts and lived experiences to the encounter.

This event coincides with the publication of PORT magazine’s summer issue, which features a new interview with Thomas J Price.
