Songs My Father Taught Me
Join us for an afternoon of musical recollection and personal celebration as we mark familial links with artists featured in V&A East museum’s The Music is Black: A British Story exhibition.
Marla Brown, daughter of anglophile reggae legend Dennis Brown, will lead a discussion with a variety of singers, musicians, and archive custodians, who will share insight on the musical identities and creative practices of their fathers, and the shadow of influence cast over their own musical careers. We will welcome sons and daughters of Jazz, Calypso, reggae, and Funk musicians to unpick threads of inherited musical talent and the legacy left on Black British music.
