Head to our Instagram channel on the evening of 4 December to watch Nabihah Iqbal performing live in our empty galleries. Having spent the past two years working on material for a new album, earlier this year her studio was broken into and her equipment was stolen, along with the works in progress which were saved in its folders. ‘Blue Magic Gentle Magic (lost songs)’ are the few works that Nabihah was able to salvage – an interim album of lost songs and ambient meditations inspired by nature and the English countryside. For this exclusive Friday Late performance, Nabihah will perform these tracks live for the first time, accompanied by visuals from artist Tom Flynn, with costumes by designer Renli Su and make-up by Carly Hart.
Nabihah Iqbal is a musician, producer, DJ and broadcaster from London. Her debut album, ‘Weighing of the Heart’, was released via Ninja Tune in December 2017 and she is currently an artist-in-residence at Somerset House, where she is writing and recording her second album. Aside from working on her own music, Nabihah has hosted a bi-weekly show on NTS Radio for over 6 years which draws on her studies in history and ethnomusicology to explore musical traditions and cultures without boundaries. She has also been a BBC radio resident since June 2018, presenting shows on BBC Asian Network and BBC Radio 1.
