Join us for our annual summer celebration for a programme of free, family-friendly creative activities.  Watch a stunning performances, explore Leap then Look’s participatory installation and take part in hands on activities across our galleries.

Sunday 6 July offers a reduced and relaxed programme that welcomes SEND audiences and their families.   

Saturday 5 July Programme  
 
Pop Up Performances (Town Square)

Join us for a joyful acrobatics performance from Mimbre, watch record breaking hula hooping troupe The Majorettes and enjoy a performance from local youth dance group Do Things Different.

Mimbre acrobats and The Majourettes will be leading family workshops later on in the day. 

 Play, Interact, Explore, Leap Then Look (Community Room)  
An interactive installation by Leap Then Look
 Large, tactile sculptural objects, touchable artworks and colourful assemblages create a lively, exciting and curiosity-filled space designed to support and encourage visitors to take part in playful exploration and critical thought through making

11:00-12:00 Young V&A’s Play Champions would like to invite SEND audiences into the installation as part of SEND Saturday programme. The installation will operate with reduced capacity for those who would value a calmer, more relaxed space.   

12.00-15.00 the installation is open to all. 

 Imagination Playground (North Lawn)
Build playful structures with our Big Blue Blocks.

A bead is a building block, 11-14's (The Shed)
Work alongside designer Bernadette Deddens to design and build objects and jewellery inspired by paper beading techniques. Play with scale and function to create some experimental designs. 

Costume & accessory Design (Open Studio)  
 Design a costume and accessories to express yourself! Delve into a variety of materials with lots of different textures and colours to create something as unique as you!  
 
Sunday 06th July Programme  

Play, Interact, Explore, (Community Room)   
An interactive installation by Leap Then Look 
Offering reduced capacity for those who would value a calm, gentle experience in the installation. Young V&A’s friendly Play Champions will be there to support facilitation and engagement.  

Play, collaborate and explore materials in Leap then Look’s participatory installation. Large, tactile sculptural objects, touchable artworks and colourful assemblages,create a lively, exciting and curiosity-filled space designed to support and encourage visitors of all types to take part in playful exploration and critical thought through making.   
 
 Sensory Stories (Play Studio and The Stage) 11.30 & 12.30 Play Studio and 13.30, The Stage 
Catch sensory storyteller Roberta Livingston exploring poems inspired by Young V&A’s Imagine Gallery.     

  • Our visual story shows you pictures of the museum and how to access our spaces. Please check our Access page for further information. 
  • This is a family event. Children must be accompanied by an adult during the workshops
  • Visitors will be welcome to move around, make noise and leave or re-enter the session throughout.  
  • Ear defenders are always available on request at our reception.  
  • The activities will be mainly floor based, and we have a range of seating available. 
  • We know that visiting a museum as a family requires lots of planning. If you would like further information or would like to tell us about your child's needs in advance of the session, please contact us by email: yvalearningevent@vam.ac.uk 
  • On the day, our friendly team will be available to help with your access needs. Please feel free to approach us to make your visit more comfortable
