The World of Costume Design: Careers, Craft and Collaboration
Join award-winning costume designers Sandy Powell and Annie Symons alongside Director of the National Film & Television School (NFTS) Jon Wardle, for an insightful and inspiring discussion on costume design in the film and television industry.
Three-time Academy Award® winner Sandy Powell has designed some of the most visually stunning and iconic films of recent times including The Aviator, Cinderella, The Favourite, Mary Poppins Returns and The Wolf of Wall Street. Powell is the official ambassador of the new Costume Design for Film and Television MFA at the NFTS alongside launching The Sandy Powell Scholarship to support future students studying Costume Design.
Annie Symons has worked in costume design across an eclectic mix of film, television and theatre productions, including Worried About A Boy which won a BAFTA TV Award® for Best Costume Design and Great Expectations, which garnered an Emmy Award® for Outstanding Costumes.
Drawing on their extensive experience across award-winning productions, Sandy and Annie will explore the vital role costume plays in bringing characters and stories to life, and developing the creative skills needed to work in the entertainment industry, to celebrate the launch of the new Costume Design course at the NFTS which will welcome its first cohort in early 2027.
As the regular host of the NFTS' Masterclass series, Jon Wardle has interviewed the likes of Paul Thomas Anderson, Sam Mendes, Phoebe Waller Bridge, Sally Wainwright and many other leading figures behind the camera, and will moderate the session.
