Industrial designers Jimin Jeon and Adam Huxley-Khng trace a material history of garment fasteners through this display. Building on a year of research in the V&A’s collection and in Chinese manufacturing towns, this commission explores the actions, mechanics and principles of fastening across time.
Bringing together objects amassed during research trips to Hong Kong and China with newly designed sculptural works and a film documenting factories in Wenzhou, the display translates fastening from a practical function into a wider language of connection, movement and making.
This commission was part of the Design Trust Fellowship at V&A East, supported by Design Trust Hong Kong.
