The Soil Sounds Back by Emily Stapleton-Jefferis
An interactive installation exploring soil degradation and ecological loss
This installation invites visitors to place their hands into sterilised soil. Motion sensors detect their touch triggering sound recordings of healthy soil: roots shifting, insects moving, microbial activity and the passing of strange waters. The installation explores soil degradation and the fragile ecosystems beneath our feet,
Join us on Friday 18 September from 18:30 for an activation of Jefferis’ sculpture by a performance from sound and interactive artist Jamie Lee, merging the performed sounds with field recordings of different soil creatures to create a new soundscape.
This event is part of the V&A Digital Design Weekend, a free digital art and design festival taking place on 18, 19 and 20 September.
